100 Item Challenge Update

So in my plight towards a simpler material life I now have an inventory of some of my stuff. Not all, but some and I must say that it is looking hopefully.

For now I will just give you the totals.

Articles of clothing and Unread books: 61 items.

Note that socks, undies, and cycling clothes are each counted as an individual lot (For example: my 12 pairs of socs that include running/cycling/dress/casual are counted as one item). I have made drastic reduction to the amount of socks However.

For the longest time I had at least a dozen socks that did not have a match that I would just grab two whenever I needed a sock. It was sort of like a magic mystery box full of wondrous splendor... Yeah, that was one of the first things to go.

It is funny how the little things add up though. Here are some of the other items that are not in the aforementioned (can I use that word like that? come on Dr Big Sis, help a brotha out) count as of yet.

-Like this little puzzle box that my parents brought me back from their trip to Canada,
-A deck of cards
-2 bicycle locks (one of these is Caitlin's and the other one actually belongs to my old neighbors- need to get that one back to them),
-The Stick
-Foam roller
-2 pairs of Rudy project sunglasses
-1 Ipod (with charger and head phones)
-1 side table (my wife has her own side table so I am counting my bedside table in my challenge) -2 belts (I have a reversible belt, which I plan on keeping and a black tattered belt which I plan on donating, just have not gotten around to do it yet)
-Black channel timepiece
-1 set of bicycle tools
-1 lot of spare bicycle parts (These two are as good as it is going to get here. I am going to lot these two line Items because they are too important to me. I am simplifying these two lots a great deal through eBay sales and give aways I think I have halved the size of both of these two categories.
-1 pair running shoes (good for running)
-2 pair old running shoes (good for working at Chester Mart- what the boys at work call the warehouse I manage) I think I am going to get rid of one of these pairs of shoes... I have struggled with this a great deal however. I do not know why it is so hard for me to get rid of old shoes.
-1 pair dress shoes (wedding shoes- they match my suit)
- pair dress shoes (completely warn through and tattered- they are at work I need to through them out)
- 1 pair crocks (perfect for racing, these babies are not going anywhere)
-1 pair of old Tevas (red tag these bad boys for donation)
-1 pair green flipper floppers (I live at the beach, these babies come in handy)
- 2 tooth brushes (one for travel, one for home) <-- I really only need one of these now that I think about it I suppose I could get rid of my extra one.
-Nalgene (technically this is Caitlin's but I am the primary user so I am going to count it as

Running tally: 87
minus planned donations: 81

That is all I have time for right now. Once I started this I realized how much stuff I really got rid of during this last move. Although to be fair I still have quite a few items in storage at my in laws and my parents house but that I am considering those out of the scope of this particular phase of this personal challenge. It is amazing at how much unnecessary clutter we surround ourselves with. Something magic happens when I put pen to paper. The Items seem to loose their power and I am able to more objectively asses what I truly need and use vs what I don't.

And the saga continues...

I am working on this also, but I need to begin in increments of 10,000 things first. I feel the first 10,000 things can happen with little angst.

Anony,

It has been my experience that the first things to go are the harderst... Even when dealing with such volume. Then once you get into a rythm it is a cake walk, until you get down to the knitty gritty- then it gets hard again.

I think the first 10,000 things will cause the most angst. Be sure to share your experience!

I want confirmation that the # of socks is indeed decreasing.
