And the Saga Continutes

The new ride is nice... real nice. I am getting use to the geometry and still fine tuning my position. There has been a little tightness in my Achilles tendon and I think it might be because my seat is a little farther forward then usual. I already slid it back a little bit and will slide it back a little more and see if that helps at all.

Training has been progressing nicely. I got a good solid recovery week in over the holidays and had some good eats. I also have the new training plan in hand for the next three weeks. Involved are FTP "stair" intervals, OSM repeats, SST, and a little tempo, and some trainer sessions to further my HTFU training.

After Worlds last Sunday I headed up Torro and then Ladera and almost fell off my bike when I saw these views.
I had to pull over and snap a couple on the 'Ol camera phone.

I guess I should really get a nice little digital camera that is not too expensive and could fit in my jersey pocket for occasions such as this one.
The quality from the camera phone isn't of the highest quality. ;)

See you all on the road , and Happy Holidays... For those with the time off enjoy, and for those of us who are working be grateful that we have jobs that allow us the privilege and honor of working during the holiday season with things how they are.

A little more

Today was one of those days when all I wanted to do was stop pedaling...
Off the front with Cook- wanted to stop pedaling
Dieing over goob- wanted to stop pedaling
no name coming up- wanted to stop pedaling
Bates- wanted to stop pedaling
Past the coffee shop- wanted to stop pedaling

Don't know what it was, but my legs were just feeling achy. Maybe it is time for a recovery day. But one thing is for sure, no matter what my head and legs were telling me I did the exact opposite... Pulled through harder with Cook, hung in with the lead group over bates, attacked no name, didn't let up on bates, went up Gibraltar after the coffee shop.

Days like these are solid gold when it comes to training the mind. No matter what, don't stop pedaling. I think life can be like that as well... No matter how bad it hurts sometimes, you don't just give up- you dig a little more in search of the real pay dirt that doesn't live in the power meter, , or what you latest v02 max test told you, or what Andy Cogans latest book says. I'm taking about the kind of power that can only come from about an inch above the sternum.

December Training/ Life Update

Well, I have started training with more consistancy.
Nothing too structured yet, just sort of riding how I feel right now, trying to increase distance and time in the saddle as much as I can with daylight and work/ life schedule demands.
Jason is helping me out again this year and have given me a couple work out blocks as well as his extra Power Tap to help me reach my potential.

I spent Thanksgiving down in Palm Springs with friends and family. Close to 60 people joined us this year in Palm Springs for this wonderful tradition. I really grew up with an incredible community of family and friends and this is one of my very favorite times of the year.

Wedding plans are coming along nicely. Our date is March 21 (San Dimas Stage Race Weekend) This can be a stressful thing at times, however it has been a great opportunity to spend time together and practice personal problem solving skills and communication. We have most of it dialed in by now thanks to a ton of help from both our families.
My buddy suggested as an idea of a bachelor party an epic hike or ride... I am thinking right now I'd like to hike up to San Jacinto peak from the Desert Valley floor. It is approximately an 11,000 foot climb (Pretty epic). But these are just thoughts and ramblings.

Also, you might notice that I have added Google Adds to the site. I got the idea when I read Marco's blog post about how much money his son earns on a monthly basis through these Adds on his YouTube Web site. The Idea would be to donate any earnings to either my Sister's Non-Profit that she is the VP of, or a company that focuses on supplying small business loans to foreign disadvantaged businesses. I don't expect to be able to contribute very much, but every little bit helps and it is a way I can contribute on my limited budget.

Back to cycling:

We had a Platinum Team meeting last week to discuss 2009 race plans and get our new kits. The road team is looking a lot more organized and I think we will have a very strong presence in the SoCal cycling scene, with very strong representation in all categories across the board. The goal is to focus more on about 8 to 10 local-ish races and try to have a dominating presence. My plan for this year is very similar to last year: Race every single possible race up until I get married... take a little mid season break for the wedding and honey moon then hit it hard again through the summer. I would love to upgrade to a Cat 2 this next season, but my real focus will be to continue to learn how to race bicycles, be as competitive as possible, race aggressively, and have a much fun as possible. Last year was a blast once I learned how to race and I hope to continue that trend.

Today, I headed up to Gibraltar Rock with Dubberly and we did some climbing. Like most things with the M-DUB, he schooled me. But I had a blast up there and I plan on trying to get out there at least one or two times a month. I was basically flailing around today, but climbing is a skill that returns fairly quickly. Plus Matt has pro cycling stories Galore and is all around local Santa Barbara Bad Ass.

Thanks for tunning in... I will try to find time to be more diligent in my blogging and carrying a camera around with me so this thing becomes a little more colorful.

Tues: OSM + Painted Cave
Wed: 1:50 min ride, 22 minute run
Thurs: OSM+ Painted Cave
Fri: 0
Sat: 40 minute run
Sun: 3+ hour hike
Mon: 1:55 min ride
Tues: Lunch ride
Wed: 1:50 minute ride
Thurs: 2 x OSM
Fri: 0
Sat: 0
Sun: 2:15 minute ride (in Cambria)
Mon: 20 minute run
Tues: Lunch hammer fest + hope ranch at night (2:15)

Highlight of the last two weeks was riding in Cambria- ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS up there.

It has been a slow boat to china getting back into the groove of riding every day. Finding the motivation to suffer has been even harder. It is almost like the mind is what needs the most training-
So my plan: Train the mind and let the body follow.

Jason is letting me ride his spare power meter again this year- That will help a great deal with specificity in training and with my busy schedule it will help me get the most out of my time. I'll probably do a MAP test some time in the near future to help determine training zones...
