Back Yard Bowls_Rise Up

So there is this spot in town that serves Acai Bowls... super super awesome stuff these bowls. SO good I find myself thinking about them at odd times through out the day..."Oh man I could really go for one of those bad boys."

The only problem I have is the price. So Caitlin and I decided to make out own (which by the way, I am not sure that we really saved that much money)

For our first round it was pretty good. The consistency was not quite the same though.

Ingredients:
Acai
Organic locally made flax seed granola
banana
Spinach
broccoli
blue berry
raspberry
agave
strawberry
apple juice
1 ice cube (only 1 because Caitlin said I was being antsy and she only had time enough to pull out one cube from the tray before she had had enough)

Things we learned: next time less juice, a little less broccoli, frozen banana maybe some crushed Ice. I think I am going to have to do a little more recon! One of the keys to Back Yard Bowls' Rio Bowls is their consistency. Their blend turns out to be a thick past that is ice cold and when it is blended with their granola it spells perfection. I don't think the Gillmores are too far away.

Be sure to check out the surf art of my cousin Colleen Hanley. She was a pretty big deal back in the day and one of the top women pro surfers in the world. She has boards hanging in the Billabong store window that can be seen from Time Square. She most recently collaborated with another cousin of mine (different side of the family) Tatiana Howard's project The Butterfly Effect. Tatiana is a professional surfer, windsurfer and all around bad ass. Be sure to check out her page and stay up on all her cool projects.

This is a pic of Collen in her studio doing her thing...

I leave you with these final words from the Zen master and local Santa Barbara world's bicycle champion Cookie...
