A pictures worth a thousand words

This photo was taken during the 1988 California International Mens marathon. Number 1693 is my friend Don Faith. Number 45 is McCandless( time of 2:07), number 6 is Niemczak (time of 2:14) number 15 is Marconi ( time of 2:17). Don held on with the big boys running 5:05- 5:15 splits for 22 miles!!... He blew on the last couple Miles running mi 23 in 7:30, 24 in 8:30, 25 in 9:00 followed by a 9:45. I think his final time was around 2:31:00!!! Holey guacamole that is fast! Hes also a pretty killer triathlete and was a good training partner, source of information, and inspiration with all the old school advice and training tips when I was just getting back in shape and training for my first triathalon.

<--------This Cats name is Roger, and he is the man hookin it up for the team at Bicycle Bobs in Goleta. He does killer work and is just an all around great guy. I was having problems with my left shifter: a bolt was loose and I would have to stop anywhere from 2 to 3 times during any given ride to tighten it up with a screw driver I would carry in my kit. Smitty hooked me up with an extra left shifter that he had lying around. It was missing a couple parts that Roger was able to replace from the old shifter and install. He did a killer job and had it done way faster then I was expecting or had anticipated. Whether you ride for Platinum or not, I highly suggest you stop by Bicycle Bobs in Goleta. Those guys rock it for sure with quality service at a price that will make you think its the year 1802.

My last two days riding were spent testing 1 min and 1 hour peak power:
So 1 min and 1 hour thresholds. I wasn't to happy with the data, which was a little different then when I did a max aerobic power test. Its pretty hard to get good data for the FTP on the road as things like stop signs, stop lights, and broken down cars on the 101 sort of mess with the data. But in any case I'm in a lot better shape then I was 7 months ago.

This weekend I'm catering all day Saturday so Ill get out early and then tag along for part of the echelon ride and then Sunday I plan on getting out and riding worlds and then heading to salvang with Kim and Steve to watch a meledrama of some sorts. Im not really sure what to expect there except a good time and whole lot of OH- YEAH! I was in a couple of Shows in Salt Lake City with a fellow who graduated from Pacific Conservatory for the Performing Arts. A couple of actors in the Melodrama are graduates and/or students there. Nick was an extremly talented actor so if thats any indication, the show should be a blast.

Blow off Sunday Worlds and come to Piru for the TT. Will be back in plenty of time, methinks.

It takes about 2 hours to get to Oceano for the show. Kim was thinking we could all drive together--we could pick you two up about 4:30?
